It’s June, which means I’m entering one of my hardest times of the year to run. Not only will I be training for a marathon, but it looks like it’s going to be an even hotter year than last. I do my best to stay sane and tolerant of the heat and humidity here in Miami, like hydrate all day, take salt tabs during runs, eat a ton, and run as early as possible, but sometimes I still lack the motivation to get out there and train. One little motivating tactic I use at times is a wardrobe refresh—and when it’s shoes, I get even more pumped. I’m one to rotate between 5-6 pairs at a time, so it’s kind of a long list. Here’s this summer’s lineup:
Easy Runs
HOKA Arahi 7: light and cushioned stability shoe
Nike Vomero 17: lightweight, springy and more breathable than HOKA Arahi
Nike Invincible 3: max cushioning
Speed & Tempo Workouts
On Cloudmonster 2: light, propulsive & responsive for super fast intervals and hills
HOKA Mach 6: more stable than On Cloudmonster; light & good energy return
Long Runs
Under Armour HOVR Sonic 6: soft shock absorption; bouncy for long run workouts
New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 v13: supportive & breathable; lasting sole
Most of these are fairly new to me, but I’m happy with the rotation. Over the last 3 years I grew to love the Under Armour HOVR Sonic series for long runs because they are super versatile—great for easy-paced long runs as well as long workouts. I usually end up not liking when shoes get updated, but so far I’ve used versions 3, 4, 5, and now 6 with the same love!
I’ll share a full review of most of these throughout June so stay tuned!
